A version of the Etteilla is of course a must have for every tarot collector. This is a nice historical reproduction.
This deck is a reproduction of the Etteilla Tarot, designed by Jean-Baptiste Alliette in the 18th century, and published in the 19th century. Like all the decks published by Lo Scarabeo, the quality of the cardboard and the impressions is excellent. It has the typical look and feel of the 19th century. The cards are only in French, but the booklet (LWB) is multilingual. A section of 12 pages offers information about this deck, its author, and the meaning of each card. The descriptions are a bit short and superficial.
The system is similar, yet not identical to the Tarot of Marseilles; the 4 suits are the same, but the Major Arcana are very different, and the whole deck is numbered from 1 to 78 (#78 being The fool). I’m not sure whether I would use it for spreads, but it is a beautiful novelty and I am happy to have it in my collection.
