This new edition of the Visconti-Sforza Tarocchi deck includes an 80-card deck and an expanded 60-page guidebook in a deluxe hinged box. The guidebook, authored by Stuart R. Kaplan, features color illustrations of the tarocchi cards.
Deck Composition
The deck consists of 78 cards, including 74 facsimile reproductions of the original 15th-century Visconti-Sforza tarocchi cards from Milan, Italy. Four cards have been recreated to complete the deck: The Devil, The Tower, Three of Swords, and Knight of Coins.
Bonus Cards
Included in the pack are two bonus cards featuring portraits of Bianca Maria Visconti and Francesco Sforza.
Historical Significance
The original cards are preserved in three locations: The Pierpont Morgan Library in New York, the Accademia Carrara in Italy, and Casa Colleoni in Bergamo, Italy. The cards showcase medieval Milanese life through allegorical imagery.
