The Moon Is a Mother Pregnancy Oracle Deck - oracle cards for pregnancy and parenthood
The Moon Is a Mother Pregnancy Oracle Deck is a 42-card oracle deck devoted entirely to pregnancy, birth, and the transition into parenthood. Created by Emilia Ortiz and illustrated by Aly McKnight, every card and every interpretation in the handbook is tailored to the experiences of this particular stage of life.
Emilia Ortiz developed this deck drawing from her own background in ancestral healing and her experience as a parent. She wanted to offer the kind of support she felt was missing from existing pregnancy resources. The themes running through the deck include radical self-care, setting healthy boundaries, protecting your energy, and honouring the wisdom of those who came before you.
What the cards look like
The cards have a white border and are illustrated in watercolour. The palette shifts from card to card: warm orange-red tones on 'Elephant', soft pink and beige on 'Cave', blue and green on 'The Moon/La Luna'. Some cards carry a number at the top. The box has a deep blue background with stars and golden light, showing two figures with one placing their hands on the other's head.
Card images show pregnant figures in natural settings: seated among waves, standing before a large moon, or cradled beside a jaguar. The 'Ancestors' card shows a pregnant figure seen from behind, surrounded by coloured triangular shapes in red, green, blue, pink, and orange.
Daily draws and spreads for expectant parents
The deck works for simple daily draws to check in with your emotional state, as well as for the more detailed spreads in the handbook. Those spreads are designed to help you bond with your baby, understand your evolving role as a parent, and prepare for the arrival of a new life. Partners and non-birthing parents can also use the deck. The themes of protection, ancestral connection, and preparing for a new life are universal and can help partners feel more connected to the process and their own development as a parent.
Before drawing a card, take three deep breaths and visualize a golden light surrounding you and your baby. This simple ritual aligns your energy with the cards, allowing for a more profound and personal message.
