Richard Crookes was born in 1960 in Preston, Lancashire, England. Experienced in both digital images and traditional art techniques, Richard has been working as a full-time freelance artist for over 30 years. He provides illustrations for the publishing industries, exhibits and sells his fine artwork, and works on commission. In 1996, Richard took up traditional calligraphy studies and went on to study on the 3-year advanced training scheme of The Society of Scribes and Illuminators, from which he graduated in 2002. Early watercolor work taught him the importance of retaining luminosity and atmospherics within the new disciplines of digital artwork, which he now uses as a new tool in re-animating traditional illustration and calligraphic techniques for new media.
