Death is one of the most misunderstood cards in the deck. Card thirteen of the major arcana is almost never about a literal ending of life. It is about transformation: the close of one chapter so a new one can begin.
When it appears, something has run its course, and change is asking to be let in.
What Death means
The Death card stands for the natural close of a cycle, a relationship, a situation or a project that has done its work. An ending can feel sudden or hard, but it clears away what no longer fits and makes room for something new.
In a reading Death reminds you that nothing worldly lasts forever, and that holding on to what has already ended only creates stagnation. Accepting the change lets you turn your effort towards fresh growth and a genuine new start.
