Egyptian tarot decks are numerous. Some stay on the surface with pharaoh imagery, others translate the mythology into a workable tarot structure. The Cleopatra Tarot by Silvana Alasia does the latter. The deck follows the classic 78-card layout, but places each card within the context of Egyptian deities, the Dendera zodiac and astrological influences.
Alasia paints in warm colours with clear lines. The deities are recognisable, the symbols are not ambiguous. Each card contains astrological symbols at the bottom of the image, which can indicate timing or cosmic influence.
The major arcana show figures such as Isis, Thoth and Anubis. The minor arcana are divided by the four elements, with Egyptian iconography that supports the meaning of each card. The Dendera zodiac, the famous ceiling relief from the temple of Hathor, returns as a reference frame for the astrological layer.
