Dante's Inferno - oracle cards for those who do not shy from depth
Some oracles give you courage and confirmation. This deck confronts you. Dante's Inferno is based on the medieval masterpiece by Dante Alighieri and takes you through the nine circles of hell as he described them in the Divine Comedy.
The 36 cards are illustrated by Paolo Barbieri, an Italian fantasy artist with a preference for dramatic compositions and intense facial expressions. The imagery is dark, especially compared to a classic RWS deck, but not frightening. Barbieri paints in deep reds, gold and shadow, with close attention to emotion.
What you see on the cards
Each card depicts an aspect of Dante's hell: sin, punishment, inner conflict, moral choice. The figures on the cards do not stand passively posing. They suffer, struggle, look straight at you. The symbolism comes directly from the original work: serpents, fire, shadows, chained souls.
The cards measure 88 x 125 mm, have a smooth finish and shuffle easily. Each card image is given a brief explanation in the multilingual guidebook that links the literary source to a contemporary reading experience.
Who this works for
This deck is designed for shadow work. It asks you to look at the uncomfortable parts of yourself: the patterns that harm you, the choices you keep repeating, the anger or fear you prefer to push away.
Knowledge of Dante's Divine Comedy is not required, but it helps. The guidebook provides context, but it is mainly the visual language that does the work. Draw a card when you are stuck in a moral dilemma or when you want to understand why a situation keeps returning.
Do not read this deck for someone else without prior agreement. The themes are confrontational and require willingness to self-reflect.
About Paolo Barbieri and Charles Harrington
Paolo Barbieri is an Italian illustrator who works primarily in the fantasy genre. His style is theatrical and emotionally charged. For this deck he deliberately chose the atmosphere of the Italian Renaissance, the period in which Dante wrote.
Charles Harrington wrote the accompanying texts. He translates Dante's medieval imagery into an accessible, psychological reading key without neglecting the literary layer.

Questions we often get
Do I need to know Dante's Divine Comedy to use this deck?
Not necessarily. The guidebook provides sufficient context. Knowledge of the book does add an extra layer, but the themes are universal enough to work without that knowledge as well.
Is this deck suitable for beginners?
It depends on what you are looking for. If you are already used to working with symbolism and self-inquiry, no problem. If you are working with oracle cards for the first time and looking for a friendly entry deck, this is not your first choice.
