Green Witch Tarot - 78 cards with botanical illustrations and green magic

Some tarot decks borrow heavily from the classic Rider-Waite tradition. The Green Witch Tarot takes a different path. It is built around green witchcraft: the use of plants, herbs and the elements as spiritual tools.

Author Ann Moura shaped the conceptual foundation and wrote the guidebook. Illustrator Kiri Østergaard Leonard translated that vision into warm watercolours that are not only atmospheric but botanically precise. On Reddit, this point comes up repeatedly: sage, oak, yarrow and St John's wort are drawn to be recognised, not decoratively vague.

What you see on the cards

The imagery is warm and organic. No harsh lines, no forbidding atmosphere. The figures move through forests, gardens and near running water, surrounded by specific plants that carry meaning within the green witchcraft tradition. Even the cards that are traditionally considered heavy have a grounded, approachable quality here.

The minor arcana departs slightly from standard tarot naming. The suits are athames (swords/air), wands (fire), chalices (water) and pentacles (earth). Each corresponds to a traditional witchcraft tool, which is a deliberate choice rather than a stylistic flourish.

What the guidebook offers

Ann Moura's guidebook is more substantial than most. Alongside card interpretations it includes recipes for magical oils, ritual descriptions and practical spells. It reads more like a working handbook for green witchcraft than a standard card reference.

Step-by-step instructions for a range of spreads are also included, which gives the deck a practical structure for those still developing their reading practice.

The plants on the cards are drawn with enough botanical accuracy that they can serve as a starting point for studying the magical and medicinal properties of specific herbs. Readers on witchcraft forums use the imagery this way.

Questions we often get

What language are the cards and guidebook in?
Both are in English. The card names appear in English on the cards themselves, and Ann Moura's guidebook is written entirely in English.

How different is this from a standard tarot deck?
The 78-card structure and the division into major and minor arcana follow the classic format. What differs are the minor arcana suit names: athames replaces swords, and the cups suit is called chalices. The overall atmosphere is oriented toward green witchcraft, which gives it a distinct character compared to more neutral tarot editions.
