The Isness Tarot (Black Edition) - ink blot tarot built around presence and awareness
Most tarot decks teach you a system. This one questions the idea of systems. The Isness Tarot by Amadea H. Ris is built around the concept of 'Isness': pure presence, without an imposed interpretive framework. The imagery makes that literal.
Every card is constructed from ink blot patterns, related to the Rorschach technique. Forms appear, but what those forms mean stays open. Meaning comes from the reader, not from a fixed card definition.
What makes the Black Edition different
The colour version of The Isness Tarot already exists. The Black Edition goes further: all colour gradations are removed. What remains is deep black, white and gold foil on the card backs. Without colour to suggest atmosphere, the ink blot images become more abstract and lose the subtle anchoring that colour can provide.
People who know both versions describe the Black Edition as more intense and, at first glance, harder to read. That is not a flaw. It is the nature of this deck.
What the cards show
No figures in scenes, no swords or cups in the foreground, no faces looking back. The cards show ink blot patterns. The set contains 83 cards: the standard 78 tarot cards across the Major Arcana and four elemental suits in the Minor Arcana, plus five additional cards that extend the philosophy of the deck beyond the classical tarot structure.
How the cards feel
The cards measure 70 x 120 mm and are printed on 295 gsm card stock with a soft matte finish. They move easily in the hand. The cards come in a gold foil-printed tuck box. A black velvet pouch is also included, which is the better storage option for daily use.
What this deck asks of you
This is not a starter deck. The abstract images work best for people who already have a feel for tarot and are willing to step away from familiar systems. There are no keywords printed on the cards, no accompanying scenes pointing in a direction.
Collectors value the Black Edition for its visual precision: matte black cards with gold foil accents at a production level few other tarot decks reach.
Pull a card without reaching for the guidebook. Sit with the image for a few minutes. Notice what you recognise, what creates resistance. Only then does the maker's intention start to add something.

Questions we often get
What is the difference from the original colour version?
The Black Edition removes all colour from the card fronts and works only with black, white and gold foil on the backs. Without colour gradations to suggest mood, the ink blot images become more abstract. People who know both versions describe the Black Edition as more intense and, at first glance, more difficult to read.
Is the guidebook included with this deck?
No. The guidebook is sold separately and is not included in this package. It covers the symbolism, the ink blot technique and the card meanings. For anyone who wants to understand what 'Isness' means as a concept, the guidebook is a useful addition.
