Most oracle decks give answers. This one gives companionship while you wait. The Liminal Spirits Oracle consists of 42 cards about liminal spaces: the threshold between what was and what is coming, between body and spirit, between knowing and feeling.
It was made by two creators who each bring their expertise. Laura Tempest Zakroff wrote the texts and is the author of several books on modern witchcraft and sigils. Brenna Child drew the spirits and beings in a style that is organic and raw, without smoothing over what feels sharp or uncomfortable.
Each of the 42 cards shows a spirit, guide or being that stands somewhere between two worlds. The colour palette is muted and earthy: shades of green, brown, grey, sometimes broken by warmer tones. The illustrations are not tight or symmetrical. They feel moving, as if the figures have just appeared or are already fading.
The imagery makes no distinction between beautiful and ugly, comforting and unsettling. That is deliberate. The deck is about threshold moments, and those are rarely straightforward.
The guidebook that comes with it explains how to recognise liminal spaces in your own life and how to use the cards to move through them. No fixed meanings, but themes and pointers.
This deck is designed for shadow work, meditation and studying situations where you do not yet have an answer. It does not offer reassurance in the sense of 'everything will be fine'. It offers recognition: this is where you are now, this is what is playing beneath the surface.
If you have little experience with shadow work, the guidebook offers enough structure to start. The cards themselves are confronting without being intimidating.
Pull a card in the morning and place it where you can see it. Look at it from time to time throughout the day without immediately seeking an interpretation. Note in the evening what stood out.
Laura Tempest Zakroff connects body, movement and witchcraft practice in her work. She has written several books on modern witchcraft, including texts on sigils and working with symbols. For this deck she developed card descriptions that challenge rather than reassure.
Brenna Child is an illustrator who developed a visual language for this deck that feels organic, sometimes raw and always deliberately unfinished. The spirits she draws seem as tangible as they are elusive.
How does this deck differ from a standard oracle deck?
Many oracle decks focus on affirmation, comfort or direction. This deck focuses on what happens in in-between spaces: moments of transition, uncertainty, change. The cards do not give answers, they give companionship. That makes it less suitable if you are looking for direct confirmation.
Can I use this deck without experience in shadow work?
Yes. The guidebook explains what liminal moments are and how to work with them. The imagery is mystical but not threatening. A quiet setting and an open attitude are enough to begin.
