Magical Nature Tarot - printed and illustrated with plants
It is rare for a deck to be literally co-created by nature. The 78 cards of the Magical Nature Tarot came into being through eco-printing, a technique in which plants are printed directly onto paper and leave behind their colour, shape and structure. Marjorie Morgan worked with more than 25 different plants and combined their natural impressions with ink drawings and monotypes.
The result is a deck in which each card is a unique collage of organic textures and handmade ink drawings. The imagery is abstract and botanical at the same time.
What you see on the cards
The images consist of leaf veins, plant structures and ink stains that together form a tarot image. The colours are muted and earthy: shades of green, ochre yellow, brownish red, here and there deep blue or violet. Some cards show plant parts printed as silhouettes, other cards show more abstract ink patterns.
The symbolism is not classic RWS. Instead of traditional figures you see organic shapes that represent the essence of the tarot archetype. That asks for a different way of reading: more intuitive, less based on recognisable scenes.
How the deck was made
Marjorie Morgan used real plants to create the cards. Each image is built up from eco-prints (prints of plants on paper by means of steam and natural ink), monotypes (one-off prints with ink) and hand-drawn details. The process is slow and labour-intensive. No two cards are exactly the same.
The deck is printed on eco-herbage cardstock, a type of paper made from grass and leaf-rich fibres instead of wood pulp alone. The cardstock feels less smooth than standard tarot cardstock, with a slight texture that suits the organic origin of the images. The packaging is made from recycled paper.
Pull a card outdoors and place it next to a plant or tree. The texture of the deck then literally comes to life.
What comes with it
There is no physical guidebook. Instead, the box contains a card with a QR code that gives access to an online guide. That guide contains intuitive prompts per card, not fixed meanings. The approach is associative and asks you to make connections between the image, the plant and your own situation.
Marjorie Morgan and Rebecca Guanzon, co-owner of Wild Soul River and energy healer, organise monthly online gatherings for users of this deck. Those gatherings are freely accessible via the QR code.

Questions we often get
Is this deck suitable for beginners?
That depends. The imagery is not classical and requires more intuitive interpretation. If you are used to traditional Rider-Waite images, this is a shift. The online guide does help with intuitive prompts, but does not give fixed meanings.
What exactly is eco-herbage cardstock?
It is cardstock made from a mixture of wood pulp and grass or leaf-rich plant fibres. It feels slightly rougher than standard tarot cardstock and has a light texture. It is biodegradable and produces less CO2 during production.
