Viceversa Tarot - Mini edition - every story has two sides
Most tarot cards have an illustrated front and a neutral back. This deck does not. Every card in the Viceversa Tarot is illustrated on both sides: the front shows the scene as you know it from a classic Rider-Waite system, the back shows exactly what happens behind the person or scene.
The deck is designed by Massimiliano Filadoro, author of the Surrealist Tarot among others, and illustrated by Davide Corsi. This mini edition is a compact version of the regular Viceversa Tarot deck, made to carry with you.
What you see on the cards
The fronts follow Rider-Waite iconography: recognizable figures, symbols and compositions. The backs literally turn the scene around. What was that wanderer doing before picking up the staff? What is the emperor looking at when you see him from behind?
The color palette is clear and direct, with warm tones and sharp contrasts. The illustration style is digital, with clean lines and a contemporary finish. Every detail on the front gets a counterpart on the back.
The cards measure 50 x 81 mm and are printed on black-core cardstock. That means the edges are black instead of white, and the cards feel sturdy without becoming stiff when you shuffle them.
How you work with it
You can use the card as it falls during shuffling, or deliberately turn it over to look at the other side. Some readers lay both sides next to each other and read them as a whole. Others choose to consult the back only when a question remains unclear.
The format makes this deck suitable for large spreads on a small surface. Ten cards side by side fit easily on a table. That is practical if you have little space at home or want to read on the go.
Draw a card and look at the front only first. Note what you see. Then turn the card over and notice what changes in your interpretation. Those two perspectives together often give a more complete picture than one side alone.

Questions we often get
Is this deck suitable if you are just starting with tarot?
Yes. The fronts follow the classic Rider-Waite structure, so the symbolism is recognizable. The backs add an extra layer, but do not force you to read differently than you are used to.
How do you read a card that has two sides?
You decide. You can use the side that comes up during shuffling, or lay both sides next to each other. There is no fixed method. Experiment and see what works for you.
