Some decks stand alone. This one is designed as the second part of a two-part system. Notoria: Tarot in Light is the sequel to Goetia: Tarot in Darkness by Fabio Listrani, and where the first deck explored demonology, this deck focuses entirely on angels and celestial powers.
The name refers to the Ars Notoria, a historical text on ceremonial magic from Western esotericism. The 78 cards follow the full tarot structure. Each card contains Kabbalistic signs, sigils and sacred names that refer to specific angels and celestial ranks.
The illustrations are bright and highly detailed, with white, gold and radiant colours as the dominant tones. This forms a striking contrast with the dark colour palette of the Goetia Tarot.
Listrani works digitally and builds his images with many layers. The cards contain anatomical details, geometric patterns and astrological symbols. The wands in the Minor Arcana are depicted as burning candles, a reference to divine will.
The 72 angels from the sixteenth-century work of Johannes Reuchlin are divided across the Major Arcana, supplemented by six additional angels to complete the full structure. The guidebook explains which angel belongs to which card, what the planetary influence is, and in which celestial rank that angel stands.
This is not a beginner's deck. It is most valuable if you already have basic knowledge of tarot and an interest in Western esotericism, Hermetic traditions or angelology. The symbolism is dense and requires the guidebook.
You can draw a card and look up which angel it corresponds to, read the planetary influence and use the rank of that angel as a starting point for your reading. For meditation you can use the illustration as a focal point.

Fabio Listrani is a digital artist based in Rome. He is known for his complex, three-dimensional illustrations that combine esoteric symbolism with anatomical precision and geometric patterns. His earlier work, Goetia: Tarot in Darkness, laid the foundation for this sequel. He is published by Lo Scarabeo.
Do I need to own Goetia: Tarot in Darkness to use this deck?
No. Notoria: Tarot in Light works as a standalone deck. You can read with it, meditate and study without knowing the earlier deck. If you do own the Goetia Tarot, you can combine the two into a system that illuminates both light and darkness. That was the intention, but it is not a requirement.
Is this deck suitable if I know little about angels or ceremonial magic?
This deck is most valuable if you already have some knowledge of tarot and an interest in Western esotericism. The illustrations contain much symbolism that you only fully understand when you use the guidebook. The guidebook helps you along, but it is not a comprehensive course in ceremonial magic.
