Product information
OH 1001 cards - 55 image cards for open storytelling
Some card decks give answers. This deck asks questions. The OH 1001 cards work with images instead of fixed meanings. Draw a card, and what you see is what there is.
The deck was created by artist Andrée Pouliot and published by OH Publishing, the makers of the well-known OH cards. The 55 cards are inspired by the Eastern storytelling tradition of One Thousand and One Nights. You see flying carpets, palaces, starry skies, hidden gardens. Warm colours dominate: red, gold, ochre, deep blue.
What you see on the cards
The illustrations are expressive and colourful. Each card contains multiple elements that you can read in different ways. A figure on a carpet can represent freedom, or uncertainty. A palace can mean protection, or confinement.
There is no text on the cards. No keywords, no titles, no guidelines. This makes the deck accessible in any language, but above all: it leaves you free to see what is visible to you in that moment.
The finish is matte, the cardstock sturdy enough for frequent use. The size of 89 x 129 mm sits comfortably in the hand. The cards come in a colourful storage box, together with a short guidebook in German.
How you work with them
This deck is not intended for divination or fixed spreads. It works particularly well for storytelling, coaching, creative writing, or therapeutic conversations. Draw a card and tell what you see. Or draw three and create a story in which all the images appear.
Many people use the cards to start a conversation, or to access feelings that are difficult to put into words. Because there is no system behind it, you cannot get it wrong. What you see is what counts.
Draw a card before you write or draw. Let the image serve as a starting point, not as an instruction. See what unfolds from there.

Questions we often get
Can I use this deck if I am not familiar with the OH cards?
Yes. The 1001 cards are separate from the OH cards and work independently. You do not need experience with other decks.
Is the guidebook necessary to work with this deck?
No. The guidebook provides background and suggestions, but the cards work fine without it. Draw a card and tell what you see. That is enough.
