OH-Cards - the original associative deck with image and word
The OH-Cards are the oldest and most widely used associative deck in the world. Since the first edition in 1981, they have been used worldwide by therapists, coaches, teachers and individuals. The principle is simple: you place a transparent word card over a picture card, and the combination that emerges works as a mirror for your thoughts and feelings.
The set consists of 88 picture cards showing familiar and sometimes unsettling scenes, and 88 word cards with concepts that can be neutral, confronting or comforting. With 7,744 possible combinations, you get a different angle each time. It does not matter how often you use the cards, the reading feels new.
How it works
You place a word card over a picture card. The transparent word card falls exactly over the image. What you see evokes something. Sometimes you immediately recognise what the combination is telling you, sometimes it takes a while for the meaning to land.
There are no instructions about what a card 'should' mean. The meaning arises in the moment, with you or with the person you are reading for. This makes the deck suitable for coaching, therapy, team building, relationship conversations, creative writing and personal reflection.
Many people use the cards daily for a quick check-in with themselves. Others use them as a starting point for a deeper conversation. The cards do not force anything, they offer space.
What you see on the cards
The picture cards are painted in warm, full colours. Some images are abstract, others realistic. You see faces, landscapes, objects, situations. Nothing is overly symbolic, everything invites association.
The word cards contain terms in several languages. Some words are concrete (house, hand, fire), others more abstract (hope, fear, freedom). Because the word cards are transparent, the word literally falls over the image, allowing image and language to merge.
Draw one combination each morning and write down in one sentence what you see. After a month you will have a logbook of your inner movements.
About Ely Raman
The OH-Cards were created by Canadian-Mexican artist Ely Raman. He painted the picture cards and developed the concept together with psychologist Moritz Egetmeyer, who selected the word cards. Raman wanted to create a tool that helps people tell their own story without the intervention of a system or fixed structure.
His work has launched an entire category of associative cards. The OH-Cards remain the most widely used deck in this genre.

Questions we often get
Are the OH-Cards the same as tarot cards?
No. Tarot cards have a fixed structure and symbolism. The OH-Cards have no system and no fixed meanings. The meaning only arises in the combination you lay and what it evokes in you.
Can I use the cards on my own, without guidance?
Yes. Many people use the cards for daily self-reflection, as a writing exercise or as a quiet moment. You do not need a facilitator to work with them.
