Pagan Otherworlds Tarot - oil paintings on 84 cards
Not every tarot deck includes five cards for the phases of the moon. The Pagan Otherworlds Tarot does, and that changes how you can work with it. This deck by Linnea Gits and Peter Dunham, the team behind Uusi, consists of 84 cards that each began as a small painting on wood.
The original oil painting technique shows in the structure and texture of the illustrations. The colours are muted, the lines organic. The whole thing feels handmade, not digitally produced.
What you see on the cards
The foundation is the classic tarot structure of 78 cards. Three elements are added. The Seeker card represents the querent. The five Luna cards show the phases of the moon, from new to full and back again.
The imagery draws connections between natural cycles and archetypes. Characters carry attributes that recur across different cards. The Major Arcana follow a recognisable path, but with details that reference pagan traditions and cosmic rhythms.
The matte finish and rounded corners give the cards a quieter appearance than gloss. The format of 89 x 127 mm shows that every detail has been deliberately placed.
How you use the Luna cards
You can use the five Luna cards in two ways. You shuffle them into the deck and let them appear as indicators of timing or emotional tides. Or you set them aside and draw one to see what phase a situation is in.
Many readers use the Seeker card as a significator and place it deliberately in the centre of a spread. That makes the querent physically present in the layout.
Try the Luna cards separately from the deck first. Draw one and let it sit for a week. That way you learn how each phase behaves before you shuffle them into the full deck.
About Linnea Gits and Peter Dunham
Linnea Gits writes and develops the concepts. Peter Dunham paints and draws. Together they run Uusi, an independent studio that makes tarot and playing cards using old craft methods.
Their work is known for combining traditional symbols with contemporary execution. They publish independently, which gives artistic freedom but also means that print runs remain limited.

Questions we often get
Do I need experience with moon phases to use this deck?
No. The Luna cards work intuitively. Each card shows a phase and you can read the meaning from the image. Prior knowledge helps, but is not required.
How do I care for cards with a matte finish?
Matte cardstock absorbs grease and moisture more quickly than gloss. Lay the cards on a clean surface and store them in the original box. Wash your hands before you shuffle.
