Power of Oh - commentary and reflection space for all 176 cards
This is not a guidebook you read once and put aside. Power of Oh is a workbook you use alongside the OH cards. Each of the 176 cards gets its own discussion, followed by blank pages for your own notes.
The author, Adam Bourgeois, works with archetypes, myths and fairy tales to explain the symbolism of the cards. The book has three parts: theoretical background on the unconscious, commentary on the cards themselves, and reflection space.
What is in the book
The first part covers the basic principles: how the unconscious works, what archetypes are, and why symbolism helps in self-inquiry. This background forms the foundation for the card descriptions that follow.
The second part is the largest: all 176 cards from the OH deck receive their own analysis. Bourgeois draws on classical stories, universal images and psychological concepts. No fixed meanings, but contexts in which a card can appear.
The third part consists of blank space. After each card description there is room for your own observations, dreams, associations or applications.
How you use this book
This book works best when you keep it next to the OH cards. Draw a card, read the description, write down what comes up for you. Over time you build a personal archive of interpretations and insights connected to your own situation.
Some people use the book as a journal. Others only pick it up when a particular card returns in a reading and they want to know what they wrote about it earlier.
Keep the book with your cards. The combination of printed text and your own handwriting gives it a different value than a loose pile of notes.
