Eros: The Garden of Love Tarot - burlesque Marseilles with extra cards
The Tarot de Marseilles has inspired countless variations, but few are as playful and unabashed as this one. Uusi takes the austere structure of the Marseilles and layers it with bold humour and sensual imagery that does not shy away from the body, desire and the pleasures of living.
This is the third edition. 1000 copies have been printed on heavy cardstock with an embossed linen finish. The deck contains 83 cards, more than the usual 78.
What you see on the cards
The illustrations follow the visual grammar of the Marseilles: flat colour fields, clear outlines, recognisable postures. But where a classic Marseilles stays reserved, Uusi places figures that look you in the eye, show their bodies, and sometimes just give you a wink.
The colours are bright and direct. The posture of the figures is confident, sometimes cheeky. It does not feel like a tribute to tradition, but like a conversation with it.
Alongside the 22 major arcana, this deck contains a 23rd card: 'The Seeker'. This card appears in all of Uusi's tarot decks and functions as an extra trump for readings in which the querent wants to hold up a mirror to themselves. Five Luna cards have also been added, intended as moon phase cards or contextual supplements.
How you work with it
The structure is Marseilles, which means the minor arcana are pip cards without illustrated scenes. That asks for intuition and knowledge of the numerology behind each number. If you are used to that, you will recognise the logic immediately.
The burlesque imagery invites a different tone when reading. Less solemn, more playful. That suits questions about relationships, desire, creativity and self-worth. You can use 'The Seeker' as a deliberate opening to a spread, especially when the question is about who you are rather than what you should do.
Pull 'The Seeker' deliberately when you read a situation in which the querent is looking for themselves, not for a solution.
About Uusi
Uusi is an American design studio run by Peter Dunham and Linnea Gits. They make playing cards, tarot decks and oracles with a clear visual signature: craft-driven, graphically strong, often with a nod to historical forms.
The Eros: The Garden of Love Tarot fits that line. It honours the Marseilles tradition but bends it just enough to become something distinct.

Questions we often get
What is the difference from a standard Tarot de Marseilles?
The structure is Marseilles, but this deck adds two card types you will not find anywhere else: the 23rd major arcana 'The Seeker' and five Luna cards. The imagery is also outspokenly burlesque and sensual, where a classic Marseilles stays austere and symbolic.
How many copies have been printed?
This is the third edition, printed in a run of 1000 copies. It is a deliberately small-scale release.
