Some oracle decks work with angels, others with animals or abstract concepts. This deck chooses historical and mythical figures who have attained the status of master. Jesus, Mary Magdalene, Buddha, Gaia, Horus: all present on one or more cards.
Kyle Gray has chosen to present these masters as accessible guides. Each card carries a message intended as direct address. The tone is encouraging, sometimes empathetic, without heavy esoteric language.
Jennifer Hawkyard created the illustrations. Her style is characterised by rich colour fields, clearly defined figures and many symbolic objects. Most cards show the face or full figure of the master, surrounded by attributes or natural elements.
The use of colour is pronounced. Gold, purple, blue and green dominate. The contours are soft, sometimes digitally processed, which gives the whole a modern, almost poster-like appearance.
The cards contain no keywords. You read only the name of the master. The message is entirely in the guidebook.
The guidebook has 160 pages. For each card you get a short description of the master, a message he or she conveys, and an affirmation you can use as meditation or daily reminder.
Gray writes in the first person, as if the master himself is speaking. The texts are short, no longer than half a page per card. No spreads, no complicated instructions. You shuffle, draw a card, open the page and read.
Place a card on your bedside table and read the message before sleeping. The next morning pick it up again and notice which sentence has stayed with you.
This oracle is aimed at people who like working with figurative guidance. If you prefer consulting abstract symbols or animals, this deck is less suitable. The masters are recognisable and culturally loaded: that can help if you are looking for a familiar anchor point, but it can also be limiting if you want something more open.
The language is English and the messages are written in an accessible, almost spoken style. No philosophical depth, but direct address. That makes it suitable for daily use.

Does the guidebook include spreads?
No. The guidebook focuses on the meaning of each card and the affirmations. How you lay out the cards is up to you.
Are the masters from one tradition or mixed?
Mixed. The deck contains Christian figures, Buddhist masters, Egyptian gods and archetypal figures such as Gaia. Gray presents them as equal sources of wisdom.
