The Illuminated Prisma Visions Tarot (10th Anniversary Edition)

James R. Eads spent ten years developing Prisma Visions into one of the most recognised indie tarot decks around. This anniversary edition prints all 85 cards on holographic iridescent cardstock: the images shift colour as the light moves across them. The minor arcana are designed suit by suit as continuous panoramas, so the cards read as one extended painting.

  • Language: English
  • Quality: Holographic iridescent cardstock, matte UV varnish, silver-rainbow gilded edges, dual foil accents per card
  • Contents: 85 cards including all previous Mystery Cards, full-colour guidebook by Katherine Tombs

The guidebook does not include reversed meanings; for those, The Big Visions Book is sold separately.

The Illuminated Prisma Visions Tarot (10th Anniversary Edition) - holographic anniversary deck with panoramic minor arcana

Ten years after the first edition, Prisma Visions Tarot arrives in a version that pushes further than any previous printing. Every card is printed on holographic iridescent paper and shifts colour as it catches the light. That is not an effect layered on top of the artwork. It becomes part of it, reinforcing the painterly quality that James R. Eads, a Los Angeles-based artist, has built across his entire Visions series.

The deck contains 85 cards. The extra cards are the Mystery Cards, the '?' cards that appeared as surprises in earlier editions of Prisma Visions. For the first time, all of them are gathered into a single deck.

What you see on the cards

Eads works in a painterly style that puts colour and movement at the centre of each image. The minor arcana are designed so that all cards of the same suit form a continuous scene when laid side by side, a panorama that stretches across the full suit. The classical Rider-Waite-Smith structure underpins it all, but the visual language is unmistakably personal.

Each card carries two separate foil colours on its face and silver iridescent edges. The box is a sturdy flip-top clamshell covered in rainbow foil paper with a matte finish. The guidebook, written by Katherine Tombs, covers the symbolism and meanings of all 85 cards in full colour. Reversed meanings are not included; those can be found in The Big Visions Book, available separately.

Not a standard reprint

The publisher states that this holographic printing will not be reproduced again. That sets it apart from a typical anniversary release. It is the only time Prisma Visions appears in this specific form. For anyone who already knows the deck and wants the most complete version combined with holographic paper, this edition is exactly that.

For those discovering Prisma Visions for the first time: this is a deck with a strong artistic character. The cards are on the larger side, and the holographic material makes every draw slightly more theatrical than a standard matte deck.

Lay the minor arcana of a single suit side by side and watch how they form one continuous landscape. Which cards you draw changes the composition every time, and that shifts how a reading feels visually.

Questions we often get

Does the guidebook include reversed meanings?
No. Katherine Tombs' guidebook covers the symbolism and meanings of all 85 cards, but reversed meanings are not part of it. For those, you need The Big Visions Book, which is sold separately.

What exactly are the Mystery Cards?
The first seven editions of Prisma Visions Tarot each contained an unlisted extra card marked with a question mark. This anniversary edition brings all of those cards together in one deck, which is why the total reaches 85 rather than the standard 78.
