The Isness Tarot - Original Color Edition - klecksography and archetypal symbolism
Most tarot decks begin with a concept. The Isness Tarot began with a question: what if symbols open meaning rather than fix it? Visual artist Amadea H. Ris built this deck over a decade, not through a predetermined system, but through klecksography, a technique where forms emerge organically from ink or paint and are then interpreted and developed. That process shows in every image.
The deck contains 83 cards: the traditional 78 archetypes, extended by 5 original cards Ris added through her own research. The 336-page guidebook is sold separately and is not included with this deck.
What you see on the cards
These images were not designed in any conventional sense. They emerged through klecksography, a process in which ink or paint creates shapes that are then read and developed further. That gives the cards a fluid, organic quality that is difficult to produce through deliberate illustration. The finish is matte, with gold foil detailing on the reverse of each card.
The cards measure 70 x 120 mm and are printed on 295 gsm card stock, which feels substantial in the hand. The tuck box is lighter in construction than heavier premium packaging, so it benefits from careful handling.
A deck without fixed meanings
Ris is explicit that this deck was not created for fortune-telling or for looking up correct meanings. The symbolism is intended as a starting point for personal interpretation, not a closed system. The imagery carries archetypal layers that touch both personal and collective experience.
That sets it apart from a standard RWS-based deck. There is no fixed key. Anyone accustomed to working with printed keywords on each card will not find them here. Meaning comes from looking.
Draw a card and let the image settle before you reach for a book or write anything down. The klecksographic images take time to open.
