The Sacred Sisterhood Tarot - Rider-Waite-Smith with vintage poster aesthetic
There are many RWS-based decks on the market. Few choose as deliberately for diversity in body types, races and identities as this one. The Sacred Sisterhood Tarot follows the classic Rider-Waite-Smith structure but replaces the traditional archetypes with female figures in a vintage poster style.
The deck is designed by Ashawnee DuBarry, an intuitive tarot reader and astrologer from New Jersey, and illustrated by Argentinian artist Coni Curi. Her work is graphic and bold, with clear colour blocks and sharp outlines reminiscent of early twentieth-century poster art.
What you see on the cards
The imagery is vibrant and direct. Women in all shapes take centre stage, not as abstract symbols but as recognisable figures. The colours are intense and warm, with plenty of orange, red and yellow. Each card has a distinct graphic composition.
The Major Arcana carry French titles such as 'La Papesse' and 'Le Diable', a reference to the Marseille tradition. The Minor Arcana follow the standard RWS symbolism with full scenes on each card. The courts are all female.
How the system works
The cards follow RWS meanings, which means you can start working with existing knowledge straight away. The guidebook gives both upright and reversed interpretations for each card. It also includes instructions for cleansing rituals, shuffling techniques and spreads.
A notable detail: the guidebook contains a 'yes/no' function that gives you quick direction for concrete questions. Not all tarot decks offer that.
Pull one card in the morning and read both the upright and reversed meaning. At the end of the day, notice which one manifested.

Questions we often get
Does this deck follow the Rider-Waite-Smith system?
Yes. The symbolism and order of the cards are based on RWS, which means you can use existing knowledge directly. The imagery is different, but the structure remains the same.
Why French titles on the Major Arcana?
This is a choice by the creators to link with the Marseille tradition. It gives the deck an extra classical feel, but the meanings and order remain those of RWS.
