The Tales of Eleven – Discover the myths and legends of Southeast Asia
About this book
The Tales of Eleven is a beautifully illustrated anthology that takes you on an enchanting journey through the mythology and folklore of Southeast Asia. This carefully curated book contains four magical stories from each of the region's eleven countries, showcasing the diversity and beauty of their oral traditions. Whether you are a lover of myths or enjoy delving into compelling stories, this book offers a rare opportunity to explore the vibrant cultures of Southeast Asia.
A collection of hidden stories
Putting together these stories was a challenge, as many of them were passed down orally and forgotten by colonization and cultural changes. In some regions, local narratives that were once at the heart of community life have been systematically displaced. With great care and dedication, Ambi Sun and Sha Roose have researched and preserved these stories, with a focus on lesser-known myths with diverse main characters, unexpected twists and profound messages. The result is a collection that not only entertains, but also inspires and imparts knowledge.
Authenticity and cultural significance
In retelling these legends, great attention has been paid to accurately portraying the creatures and elements of the stories. The authors have worked to maintain the cultural relevance of each character and symbol, giving readers an authentic experience of Southeast Asian mythology.
