Some decks ask you to read a guidebook first. This deck puts the meaning directly on the card. The Wandering Star Tarot is drawn by Cat Pierce, who has woven the keywords for each card into the illustration itself.
It is her first tarot deck. Pierce is best known as a singer and songwriter in The Pierces, but has been painting for years. Her visual language is dreamy, colourful and light enough not to overwhelm.
The illustrations are hand-drawn. Colours blend softly, the lines are fluid. Each image contains one or more words that anchor the traditional meaning of the card.
Those words are not printed beneath the card, but are part of the design. That makes this deck usable without immediately needing to consult a guidebook. Experienced readers can also use them as a reflection point.
The cards have a matte finish. The format is slightly smaller than standard, which makes shuffling more comfortable.
