Product information

Womb Chalice Oracle - feminine archetypes in a first edition of 500

Thirteen years separate the first sketchbook and this oracle. Amelia Buchanan began the work during her master's at the Royal College of Art, deepened it alongside a career at Alexander McQueen, and finished it in the evenings after her children were asleep. That history shows in the cards.

The deck is released as a first edition of 500 copies, published under her name Daughter of Danu. The 44 cards depict feminine archetypes, goddesses and mythic figures, including Persephone, moon goddesses, Grail keepers and the Rose Mothers, built in deep tones of red, gold, earth and midnight blue.

What you see on the cards

Buchanan combined traditional painting techniques and handwork with digital drawing on a tablet and collage methods. The images are layered and richly coloured, with a visual quality that clearly draws on years of research into goddess traditions and sacred feminine symbolism.

The cards are not built around fixed answers. Each image is designed to prompt reflection, and the 56-page guidebook works through the mythology and symbolism card by card. The texts are grounded in Buchanan's own thirteen years of research into feminine mysteries.

The packaging in this first edition

The deck comes in a sturdy presentation box with gold foil print. Included is a burgundy cloth pouch with a hand-printed gold symbol and spiral charm. Buchanan also added a personal thank-you card to this first edition.

The Rose Mothers, the Mermaids and the Maryams each anchor their own card. If you already know these traditions, the symbolism will read immediately. If you do not, the guidebook gives you the context to find your way in.
