Black Seed Tarot - tarot and chakra energy in one deck
Some tarot decks follow the traditional structure and leave it at that. This deck adds a layer: every card corresponds with one of the seven chakras. Anyone familiar with energetic work or yoga will recognise that connection immediately.
Theresa Hutch painted 78 cards in soft watercolour tones. Each image shows an animal figure acting as a guide. The colour palettes are calm, the compositions clear. There is space around the figures, which makes the cards feel lighter than many classic decks.
What the chakra connection is for
Each card is linked to one of the seven chakras. That means that alongside the traditional tarot meaning you can also see which energy centre in the body needs attention. The included chakra overview card shows at a glance which card belongs to which chakra.
For anyone who works daily with yoga or meditation, that is a useful addition. For those mainly interested in traditional tarot reading, the deck works without that layer as well. The animal imagery is intuitive enough to read independently of the chakra system.
What the cards look like
Every image is painted in watercolour. The colours are soft and often muted: plenty of beige, soft green, light blue, with the occasional warmer accent. The animals are stylised, not realistic. They often look straight at you or sit in a relaxed posture.
The card backs show a symmetrical pattern in black and white. The format is compact: 79 by 130 millimetres. The cards have a matte finish, which makes shuffling easier. The cardstock feels sturdy.
Pull one card each morning and notice which chakra it relates to. That gives you a concrete starting point for meditation or breathwork later in the day.
The guidebook and how you work with it
The guidebook runs to 105 pages. Each card gets a description explaining both the traditional tarot meaning and the chakra connection. The texts are compact and clear. There are no spreads included, but there is an introduction to the chakra system.
The deck works well for daily draws. Anyone wanting to do more with the chakra layer can create a spread in which the positions correspond to the seven chakras. That is not included as an example in the guidebook, but the overview card makes it easy to set up yourself.

Questions we often get
Do I need knowledge of the chakra system to use this deck?
No. The guidebook explains the basics and the animal figures are intuitive enough to work with without that knowledge. The chakra layer is an addition, not a requirement.
How does this deck differ from the White Sage Tarot by the same creator?
White Sage Tarot works with plant symbolism and human figures, Black Seed Tarot with animals and chakra energy. The watercolour style is similar, but the theme and focus are different.
