This is not a layered symbolic system with a companion study book. The Fuzzy Prism Oracle is built for immediate use: pull a card, look at what you see, notice what it stirs. That is the starting point.

Holly Simple drew all 44 cards herself, by hand, in her studio at the BOK Building in Philadelphia. The images are bold in colour and deliberately idiosyncratic in style. No classical tarot symbolism, no mythological references. Instead: recognisable, playful images that leave room for personal interpretation.

What you see on the cards

The illustrations are colourful and carry something off-kilter, something a little funny. Holly Simple describes her own work as highbrow/lowbrow: she moves between refined craft and the raw energy of the indie zine and comics scene. That is visible in this deck. The images are not polite.

The cards are printed on playing card stock, which makes them more flexible than standard tarot cards. They shuffle easily and hold up well over time.

The guidebook

The deck comes with a small guidebook that describes each card from Holly's own perspective. The writing is personal and sometimes unexpectedly funny. What makes the booklet stand out: it also contains her original pencil sketches for every card, so you can see how the illustrations started.

The cover is in colour, the interior is black and white. Compact size, easy to keep beside the deck.

The sketches in the guidebook let you see the drawings differently from the finished cards. It adds another layer to how you read the images.

About Holly Simple

Holly Simple is a multimedia artist, storyteller, and community gatherer based in Philadelphia. She started her studio in 2014 with her first zine. After her first tarot reading, the idea for her own deck took shape, and she has been making cards and books ever since, describing them as tools for personal growth.

She works from the BOK Building in Philadelphia and is best known for the Holly Simple Tarot, which appears in small boutiques around the world. The Fuzzy Prism Oracle is one of her earlier works. Her most recent project, the Amulet Friends Oracle, was inspired by time spent in the American Southwest.

How does this deck differ from a classical tarot or oracle deck?
The Fuzzy Prism Oracle does not use traditional tarot symbolism or fixed meaning systems. Holly Simple writes her own interpretation for each card in the guidebook, from her personal point of view. It is more intuitive than systematic.

Is the guidebook only in English?
Yes, the guidebook is entirely in English. The cards themselves carry no text, which means you can also use them on the basis of the images alone.
