Curious Travels Tarot - reading stories instead of looking up meanings
Not every tarot deck asks you to memorize what a card means. Some decks simply show you what is happening and ask you to build a story around it. The Curious Travels Tarot by Amelia Rozear belongs to that second group.
The 78 cards follow the classic Rider-Waite-Smith structure, but the visual language is different. Each card is drawn like a postcard of a moment: a departure, a conversation, a still scene. You see movement or the absence of it. That makes it easier to read intuitively, without first opening a guidebook.
What you see on the cards
The illustrations are colorful and detailed, with a dreamy, illustrative style. Watercolor dominates, which creates soft transitions and a somewhat nostalgic feel.
Rozear draws from a love of nature and diverse cultures. Those influences show in the symbols and the setting of each image. The cards remain recognizable to anyone familiar with the RWS tradition, but they add an extra visual layer. You read not only based on what you have learned, but also on what you see in front of you.
Each image tells a story. Ask yourself: what happened just before this moment, and what comes next? That approach makes this deck suitable for anyone who wants to practice narrative reading.
Lay out three cards side by side and read them as a short story: beginning, turning point and outcome. The images invite that naturally.
Who this deck works for
This deck is designed for intuitive readings. If you already have experience with tarot, you will recognize the structure immediately. If you are just starting out, the narrative images help you make connections without having to memorize every meaning.
It works well for daily readings, as each image shows enough to reflect on. Also for questions about personal growth, career or relationships, the visual language offers enough starting points.
