Dark Light Oracle - forty cards about the space between light and shadow
Oracle cards about shadow work are often heavy in their design. This deck takes a different path. The imagery is dark, but not apocalyptic. Surrealist scenes in muted colours, with figures hovering somewhere between dream and nightmare.
The Dark Light Oracle is created by writer Carole-Anne Eschenazi and artist Alexandra V. Bach. It consists of forty cards that present themes such as fear, grief, hope and joy not as opposites, but as parts of one and the same experience.
What you see on the cards
The illustrations are both figurative and symbolic. Faces with closed eyes, hands holding or releasing something, silhouettes in misty landscapes. The colours are predominantly dark, with flashes of light that open the scenes just enough to give breathing room.
The cards have no border, which allows the image to run to the edge. This makes them visually strong, but also vulnerable to corner damage. The cardstock is sturdy enough for regular use.
Each card has a title in English. No keywords, no additional text. The 76-page guidebook describes the meaning of each card and offers suggestions for interpretation.
How this deck works
The descriptions in the guidebook are personal and direct. They do not tell you what a card means, but what a card can evoke. That asks for an active reader willing to make connections themselves.
The deck works well for daily draws, but also lends itself to deeper questions about personal patterns. The imagery invites you to look longer than you might on first glance.
Draw a card in the evening and place it beside your bed. Look again the next morning and notice what has changed in how you read the image.

Questions we often get
Are the illustrations confronting or gentle?
The images are dark, but not grim. They show melancholy and uncertainty, but without shock value. If you are sensitive to heavy symbolism, look at some card samples first.
Is the guidebook thorough enough for someone without experience in shadow work?
Yes. Each card receives a description of half to a full page, with concrete starting points for reflection. No prior knowledge is required.
