An encore is a return to the stage after the show. Ciro Marchetti chose that word deliberately for this deck: he went back through his own body of work, selected his favourite cards from decks like the Tarot of Dreams and the Tarot Grand Luxe, and started again. Not by copying them, but by redrawing each one in a completely different style.
The difference is immediate. Where Marchetti's earlier decks are known for saturated, vivid colour, this one works in sepia tones with a sketch-like digital line. The cards look like detailed pen-and-ink drawings. Quieter, warmer, and more unified as a set.
The deck stays close to the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition, so the imagery remains recognisable to anyone with experience of tarot. The sepia palette ties the whole collection together visually, rather than letting individual cards compete for attention.
The four extra Palace cards stand out. One for each suit, Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles, they sit outside the standard 78-card structure. Marchetti describes them as safe sanctuaries or thematic anchors in a reading. They fit seamlessly into the deck without interrupting the visual flow.
The 68-page guidebook offers multiple perspectives on the cards rather than a single fixed system. The neutral sepia colouring of the cards was designed with this in mind: less colour-coding leaves more room for the reader's own interpretation.
Marchetti started his career in corporate graphic design and marketing. He eventually left that path to focus entirely on his own illustration work.
