Fairy Tale Cards Matching Game - 32 fairy tales in image pairs
In regular memory you look for two identical images. In this game you look for two different scenes that together tell one fairy tale. Little Red Riding Hood in the forest, and later at the wolf's house. Two moments, one story.
The game contains 32 pairs, each based on a classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm or Hans Christian Andersen. The illustrations come from different artists, which means you often see a different visual style per pair. Some drawings are dreamy, others darker or more realistic.
What you see on the cards
Each card shows a specific moment from a fairy tale. The images are detailed enough to recognise the story, but never identical. That makes the game slightly harder than traditional memory, especially for younger children.
The cards are square (70 x 70 mm), which feels small but solid. The card stock is thick and matte finished. There is no text on the cards themselves, only images.
The included booklet contains short summaries of all the fairy tales. The text is in English. If you want to read the stories aloud or discuss them, you can start straight away.
How you can use the game
Of course you can just play memory. But because the images are not identical, you can also use the cards in other ways. Draw a random card and tell the corresponding fairy tale. Or lay down two separate cards and invent a new story.
Some people use the cards as a storytelling aid for children who are learning to read or listen. The images provide enough support to follow the story.
Try having multiple players name the pairs before you turn them over. This increases the challenge and works well with children who already know the stories.
Who this works for
The game is designed for families and schools. Young children can recognise and link the images, older children or adults are challenged by the narrative layer. You need to know the story to be able to form the pairs.
Also useful if you simply want to enjoy the illustrations. The variation in style keeps it visually interesting.

Questions we often get
Are the cards suitable for very young children?
That depends on how well they know the stories. Because the images are not identical, it is harder than traditional memory. Children from about five years old who have heard the fairy tales a few times can usually manage.
Can you play the game alone?
Yes. It is a quiet activity to find the pairs while looking at the illustrations. Some people use it as a concentration exercise.
