Good Fortune Tarot - traditional symbolism with shifted perspective

Most Rider-Waite-Smith decks follow the structure faithfully. This one tilts it a quarter turn. The foundation is familiar, but Justice does not hold her scales the way you are used to. She tilts them with her knee.

Good Fortune Tarot by Barbara Moore and Jessica Roux uses RWS as its base and adds details from the Marseille tradition. No radical departures, but enough shifts to keep your attention sharp.

What you see on the cards

Jessica Roux's illustrations work with muted colours and plenty of flora and fauna. No bright accents, but an organic feel reminiscent of botanical prints. Her style is timeless, almost nostalgic.

The cards have a linen finish. It feels good when shuffling and gives slightly more grip than smooth cardstock.

One striking detail: The Emperor and The Empress form a continuous panorama. You only see the two scenes as a whole when you place the cards side by side.

Marseille influences in RWS format

Moore has not chosen a full Marseille deck, but brings in elements. Justice with her tilted scales is the clearest example. These are small interventions that make the symbolism just a bit less predictable.

The theme of the deck revolves around fortune as a moving force. Not something that happens to you, but something you navigate with. You see that reflected in the dynamic imagery.

Place The Emperor and The Empress side by side and draw a third card. Position it exactly between them and observe what determines the current dynamic between structure and creation in your life.

The 272-page guidebook

Barbara Moore writes clearly. Her texts are accessible without becoming superficial. The guidebook is printed in full colour and describes all 78 cards.

You will not find ready-made answers, but interpretations that help you make connections yourself. Moore encourages active conversation with the cards rather than passive waiting for what they say.

About Barbara Moore and Jessica Roux

Barbara Moore has written about tarot for over 35 years and has taught worldwide. Her strength lies in translating symbolism into practical readings without losing depth.

Jessica Roux is an illustrator based in Nashville. Her work revolves around plants, animals and rhythmic forms in muted colours. For this deck she has used that aesthetic to give the RWS tradition an organic, almost weathered quality.

Questions we often get

How much does this deck deviate from a classic Rider-Waite-Smith deck?
The structure remains the same. The deviations are in details and shifted perspectives, such as Justice tilting her scales. It is familiar enough to work with immediately, different enough to make you pay attention.

Is the guidebook suitable for beginners?
Yes. Moore writes clearly and explains the symbolism without assuming prior knowledge. At the same time, the text offers enough depth for experienced readers.
