Green Glyphs Oracle - surrealism and symbolism without fixed meanings
Not all oracle cards tell you what a symbol means. This deck shows you dreamlike landscapes full of clouds, eyes, keys and doors, and asks: what do you see here?
The Green Glyphs Oracle by James R. Eads contains 50 cards without a fixed system. No numbering, no elemental division, no colour coding. What you do get are prismatic gold accents throughout that catch the light and give the cards an almost holographic quality.
What you see on the cards
The imagery is surreal. Large moons above water surfaces, palms with stars, staircases that seem to lead nowhere. Eads works with flowing lines and atmospheric colours: lots of green, blue, purple, with accents in gold.
The symbols are recognisable enough to offer something to hold on to: keys, eyes, suns, doors. But the context in which they appear is deliberately unusual. A key floats in a cloud. A door stands in the middle of a landscape with no building around it. That tension between familiar and strange makes the deck suitable for intuitive readings.
The guidebook gives a short description for each card and a few reflective questions. No fixed meanings. The intention is for you to decide what the card says in your reading.
How this deck behaves in use
The cards are compact: 63.5 x 88.9 mm. That makes them easy to shuffle, especially if you have smaller hands or like to take a deck with you. The card stock feels sturdy, not flexible. The prismatic accents catch light in a way that stands out when you tilt the card.
Because there is no fixed system underneath, you can combine this oracle with other decks from the Green Glyphs series: the tarot deck or the Lenormand cards. Or you use it on its own for daily pulls where you respond mainly to the image rather than learned meanings.
Pull a card, lay it in front of you and ask yourself: which element draws my eye first? That is often the starting point for interpretation.
About James R. Eads
James R. Eads is a visual artist whose work revolves around dreamscapes and the border between consciousness and imagination. His style is characterised by flowing shapes, lots of atmosphere and few hard lines. Besides cards, Eads also creates prints and murals.
His Green Glyphs series includes several decks that share the same visual language but each serve a different function: tarot for structure, Lenormand for practical questions, and this oracle for open reflection.

Questions we often get
Can I use this deck if I have no experience with oracle cards?
Yes. The symbols are accessible enough to start with. The deck has no fixed system, so you learn mainly by doing and noticing what the images bring up for you.
How does this oracle differ from the Green Glyphs Tarot?
The tarot deck follows the structure of 78 cards with arcana and elements. This oracle has 50 cards without fixed division and asks more for free interpretation. The visual language is related, but the function is different.
