Herbarium Oracle - botanical cards with medieval imagery

Not every oracle deck lets you feel nature this directly. Each card in the Herbarium Oracle shows a plant, flower, root or mushroom, held by a drawn hand. That detail makes the cards personal.

Elisa Seitzinger drew the 36 illustrations in a style that refers back to medieval manuscripts and old woodcuts. The lines are refined, the colours earthy: green, ochre, deep red. These are not naturalistic images, but they show just enough detail to recognise the plant.

What you see on the cards

Each of the 36 cards shows one botanical element. Rose petals, mushrooms, roots, flowering herbs. Six different hands recur, each with its own gesture. That repetition binds the cards together and connects human to plant.

The images are rectangular and smaller than standard tarot cards. That makes them comfortable for daily work. They shuffle easily and sit well in the hand.

The guidebook and how to work with it

Jessica di Fraia, also known as Stregadellemele, wrote the 192-page guidebook. For each card you get two layers: the botanical properties of the plant and its symbolic meaning. The texts are clearly written and connect to themes such as self-care, seasonal cycles and balance.

The guidebook is multilingual, including English. You can use the cards without prior knowledge of plants or herbs. For those already working with herbs or green witchcraft, the text offers additional connections.

Place the card you drew next to the actual plant or herb shown on it. This connects the symbolic message to something tangible.

About Elisa Seitzinger and Jessica di Fraia

Elisa Seitzinger is an Italian illustrator, known for the Symbolic Soul Tarot. Her style combines elements from medieval manuscripts with a modern, detailed line. For this oracle she chose a limited colour palette and repeated motifs that give the set a recognisable character.

Jessica di Fraia has knowledge of herbs and folklore traditions. Her texts provide both botanical and esoteric context for each card.
