Jupiter Power Tarot - matt version & silver edges - Rider-Waite structure with botanical symbolism
Not every deck chooses to put people on the cards. This deck chooses plants. Charlie Quintero has linked the 78 cards of the traditional tarot to trees, flowers and herbs, while keeping the Rider-Waite structure intact.
The cards are printed on sturdy 330gsm cardstock with a matte finish. The edges are silver. Each design combines botanical detail with a contemporary, graphic style that resembles linocuts or woodcuts. The colours are earthy: green, brown, ochre, with bold black lines.
What you see on the cards
Each card carries the name and number of a traditional tarot card, but the imagery is entirely botanical. The High Priestess becomes sage, for instance. The Sun becomes a sunflower. The Hanged Man becomes a climbing plant. Each plant is chosen to reflect the meaning of the card.
The guidebook goes further than card meanings alone. It contains short texts about the properties of each plant, supplemented with poetic fragments that deepen the symbolism. No long stories, but enough to make the link between plant and archetypal meaning clear.
How this deck works in practice
Because the deck follows the Rider-Waite order, you can work with it as you are used to. The plant symbolism adds an extra layer: properties such as rooting, flowering, seasonality and direction of growth come naturally into your interpretation.
The matte finish makes the cards pleasant to shuffle. They slide slightly less smoothly than glossy cards, which many people find more comfortable with intensive use.
Pull a card in the morning, look up the corresponding plant in the guidebook, and notice during the day where you encounter the properties of that plant. It works surprisingly concretely.
