Linnea Gits hand-cut every card in this deck from linoleum. That technique shapes the images directly: raw lines, strong contrasts, and the physical energy of the cutting process visible in every card. The deck is loosely based on the Marseille Tarot and includes 5 additional Luna cards alongside the standard 78.

  • Language: no text on the cards
  • Quality: premium playing card stock with embossed linen finish, gold foil tuck box
  • Contents: 83 cards (22 Major Arcana, 56 Minor Arcana, 5 Luna cards), guidebook sold separately

First edition, linocut artwork hand-cut by the artist on heavyweight card stock with a matte linen surface.

Product information

LUX Tarot - hand-cut linocut rooted in the Marseille tradition

Linnea Gits cut every card in this deck by hand from linoleum. That is not a stylistic flourish. It is a choice that shapes the images at a fundamental level. Linocut works through pressure, resistance, and lines that never quite behave. The physical act of cutting leaves marks that drawing or digital work cannot reproduce. LUX is Latin for light. The deck is loosely based on the Marseille Tarot, and it comes from Uusi, the art and design studio Gits runs with Peter Dunham. They have worked within the symbolic landscape of tarot for eight years. This deck is a direct expression of that practice.

What you see on the cards

The imagery is dense and uncompromising. Linocut does not allow for gradients: everything is black or white, cut or uncut. Compared to a watercolour deck or a softly illustrated RWS variant, this is stark and intentional. Figures are not outlined but built from the traces of the tool. The Empress carries a shield with seven trees, representing the body's seven chakras. Below her moves a lunar lake. The High Priestess is described as a summoned storm cloud, full and cleansing. The symbolism here is physical and direct, not decorative or abstract. Beyond the 78 standard cards, the deck includes 5 Luna cards. These are part of the system Gits and Dunham developed at Uusi. The guidebook, sold separately, provides the full context.

How this relates to the Marseille Tarot

The structure follows the Marseille tradition, but Gits does not reproduce it. Her imagery carries its own voice, shaped by the linocut medium and the philosophy behind Uusi. The framework is familiar. The execution is personal. The guidebook is not included. Anyone wanting the philosophical and symbolic context will need the LUX Tarot book, available separately.
The cards measure 75 x 130 mm. The embossed linen finish gives a good grip without the cards sticking together during use.

About Linnea Gits and Peter Dunham

Linnea Gits and Peter Dunham founded Uusi together. Gits cuts and writes. Dunham designs and illustrates. For eight years they have built a recognisable position in contemporary tarot and oracle design. The LUX Tarot is a first edition. The production reflects that care: premium playing card stock, an embossed linen finish, and a tuck box printed on heavy card with gold foil embossing.

Questions we often get

Does a guidebook come with the deck? No. The LUX Tarot book is sold separately. The deck is delivered without any written explanation included. What are the 5 Luna cards? The Luna cards are additional cards beyond the standard 78. They are part of the system developed by Uusi. Their full meaning is not explained in the packaging itself. For that, the separately available guidebook is needed. How does this differ from a standard Marseille Tarot? The structure is based on the Marseille tradition, but the imagery is entirely remade through linocut. The style is rawer and more personal than a traditional Marseille reproduction. The deck also includes 5 Luna cards not found in the classical system.
