Step into a world where modern insight meets the timeless "Old Religion." The Tarot of the Old Path Set is more than just a deck; it is a comprehensive guide to the Craft, often referred to as Wicca. This beautifully curated set combines the intuitive artistry of Sylvia Gainsford with the profound esoteric knowledge of Howard Rodway. Housed in a sturdy, protective slipcase, this set features a full 78-card deck and an extensive 160-page guidebook, making it a cornerstone for anyone seeking to align their spiritual practice with the rhythms of nature and ancient lore.
The essence of the Tarot of the Old Path lies in its atmospheric and evocative "vibe"—it feels like a walk through an enchanted English garden at twilight. The visual style is delicate yet deeply detailed, capturing the ethereal beauty of the natural world. Unlike many traditional decks, this set was specifically designed to reflect the "Old Path" of the Craft, blending classic Tarot archetypes with a distinctly pagan soul. Whether you are a practitioner of the Old Religion or a seeker of nature-based spirituality, this set offers a vibrant, living bridge to the wisdom of the ancestors.
The symbolism in this deck is a rich tapestry of traditional Tarot iconography and Wiccan philosophy. A unique and standout feature is the integration of botanical wisdom; Sylvia Gainsford has masterfully woven her extensive knowledge of flora into every card. Every flower and plant depicted carries its own esoteric meaning, adding layers of nuance to every reading. The themes revolve around the cycles of life, the power of the elements, and the sacred connection between humanity and the earth. It is a system that speaks of magic found in the everyday and the profound mysteries of the Goddess and the God.

Sylvia Gainsford
Sylvia Gainsford was a gifted artist whose mastery of esoteric symbolism and botanical detail brought the Old Path to life. Her ability to translate complex spiritual concepts into delicate, expressive illustrations makes this deck a visual masterpiece.
The Tarot of the Old Path is designed for deep, introspective readings. The accompanying 160-page book is a vital resource, providing in-depth descriptions of each card’s symbolism and interpretation. It guides you through complex spreads, such as the Celtic Cross and the Planetary Spread, making it an excellent study tool for mastering the art of divination.
"When reading with the Tarot of the Old Path, pay close attention to the flowers depicted at the feet of the figures; they often reveal the 'hidden' emotional climate of the situation you are inquiring about."
Is this deck suitable for those new to Tarot?
Absolutely. While it contains deep Wiccan symbolism, the clear imagery and the exceptionally detailed guidebook make it very accessible for beginners who are willing to learn as they go.
How does this deck differ from the standard Rider-Waite-Smith system?
While it follows the 78-card structure, many of the archetypes are re-envisioned through the lens of the "Craft." The names and depictions of certain cards may shift to better reflect Wiccan theology and the natural world.
What makes the book in this set special?
Unlike the small "little white books" found in many decks, this is a substantial 160-page volume. It provides not just meanings, but a window into the "Old Path" philosophy, making it a valuable study guide for both Tarot and Wicca.
