Oracle of the Mythic Heroes - mortal heroes, astrology and a 256-page guidebook
Most mythology oracles focus on the gods. This one deliberately does not. Oracle of the Mythic Heroes places the mortal figures at the centre: 36 heroes and heroines alongside 4 sacred mythological creatures. These are people who failed, learned and endured, which is exactly what makes them recognisable.
The deck was created by Letao Wang, a Hong Kong-based astrologer and tarot specialist who has worked as a spiritual counsellor since 2015. He published this oracle in January 2024 with Beyond Words, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. The illustrations are by Rosang Zuali and Anjun Guo.
What you find on the cards
Each card shows a figure from Greek or Roman mythology, each carrying their own story. Orpheus stands for love and loss. Daedalus for ingenuity and overstepping limits. Helen of Troy for beauty and conflict. The 36 human figures are joined by 4 cards featuring sacred creatures from the same tradition.
What sets this deck apart from comparable oracles is the layer of astrological information Wang adds to each card. Every hero is linked to a zodiac sign, a planet and a decan. The guidebook also suggests a corresponding crystal for each card.
The guidebook as the heart of the deck
At 256 pages, the guidebook is considerably more substantial than what most oracles offer. Wang does not only cover the mythological background of each hero, he also shares concrete examples from his own counselling sessions. This shows directly how an ancient story can apply to a modern question.
This is not a guidebook you read once and put away. The combination of myth, astrology and real-life example makes each card entry worth returning to, depending on what is happening in your life at the time.
When you pull a card, look not just at the hero but at the zodiac sign and planet Wang connects to them. That layer shifts how you read the story.

Questions we often get
Can I use this deck without a background in astrology?
Yes. The astrological information is explained card by card in the guidebook, alongside the mythological background and practical examples from Wang's counselling work. He explains the connections, so you do not need to know them in advance. That said, the guidebook is written for readers willing to engage with it, not for those looking for a quick reference list.
What language are the cards and guidebook in?
Both are entirely in English. The names of the figures appear on the cards. The guidebook is available in English only.
