Quantum Tarot 2.0 - scientific imagery on the tarot structure

Not every tarot deck expresses its symbols in cups and swords. This deck translates the major themes of tarot into the language of modern science: black holes, quantum leaps, dying stars and particle accelerators.

It is a concept by Kay Stopforth, realized in photographic imagery by Chris Butler. The 78 cards follow the classic Rider-Waite structure but replace the traditional imagery with astrophysical and cosmological phenomena. What you see are digital collages with spot-gloss accents that give depth to the space imagery.

What you see on the cards

The Major Arcana are linked to cosmological events. The birth of a star may stand for a new beginning, a black hole for transformation. The Minor Arcana work with concepts from quantum mechanics and particle physics.

This is not photography in the traditional sense. Butler has combined digital images from telescopes, research data and scientific visualizations into one coherent visual language. The result feels modern and abstract, yet remains recognizably tarot.

The spot-gloss finish creates contrast between matte and glossy surfaces. This gives the cards a tactile quality that sets them apart from standard printed decks.

How this deck works

The guidebook explains for each card which scientific principle forms the basis and how that translates into a tarot interpretation. You do not need to have studied physics. The scientific concepts function as metaphor, not as endpoint.

Still, this deck asks something of you. The imagery is abstract. You must be willing to let go of what you are used to and immerse yourself in a different symbolic world. Those who cling to traditional imagery are better off with a classic deck.

Use this deck for questions where multiple outcomes are possible. The quantum metaphor fits well with questions about decision points and unpredictable turns.
