Seawitch Tarot - maritime symbolism in a large format
Not every tarot deck pulls you straight into the water. This one does. The Seawitch Tarot by Willow Whiteraven treats the sea as a metaphor for the unconscious: deep, hidden, sometimes calm and sometimes roaring.
The cards switch between black and white and colour. Some are drawn in hard black lines with sparing white accents, others are rich in colour and detail. This mix gives the deck an uneven rhythm that suits the unpredictability of the sea itself.
What you see on the cards
Sea creatures, shells, anchors, tentacles, skeletons, shipwrecks. The imagery is nautical and gothic at once. Whiteraven does not draw a pretty ocean. The sea here is dark, full of mythology and old stories.
The cards carry French titles. This gives the deck a classic flair, especially combined with the vintage style of the illustrations. The guidebook is a fold-out sheet in English with interpretations for every card.
This edition is larger than the standard version: 87 x 150 mm. The format brings out the details more sharply, but also makes the deck harder to shuffle. The card stock is sturdy, 350 gsm art paper with a matte finish that does not shine easily or pick up fingerprints.
Who this deck works for
The symbolism is strong enough for intuitive readings. You do not need to know the traditional meanings in detail to work with this deck. The images tell enough.
At the same time, this is not a light deck. The tone is heavy, the colours are sombre, the themes are dark. If you are looking for something gentle or soothing, this is not your deck.
Lay out one card in the evening and leave it there until the next morning. The images keep working.

Questions we often get
What is the difference between the limited and the standard edition?
The format. The standard edition is 70 x 120 mm, this limited edition is 87 x 150 mm. The larger format brings out the details more sharply, but also makes the deck less compact to carry.
Why do the cards have French titles?
It fits the vintage and classic feel of the deck. The guidebook is in English, so you do not need French to work with the deck.
