Secret Pocket Oracle Bloody Hell Edition - limited mini deck without words
An oracle deck without a guidebook asks something of you. No explanations, no template. Just 54 cards with images that tell their own story, provided you build it yourself.
Patrick Valenza created this Bloody Hell Edition as part of the Mildred Payne universe. The format is small, the edition limited to 300 sets, and the cardstock sturdy enough for daily handling. It fits in an inside pocket.
What you see on the cards
The style is surrealist and sombre. Figures with distorted bodies, dreamlike landscapes, details that only appear on a second look. The visual language resembles that of the Deviant Moon Tarot, but more compact and with less explanation.
Where needed, there are English terms on the cards, but no full sentences. No keywords to point you in a direction. That part is up to you.
How you work with it
Without a guidebook you rely on what you see. That makes this deck less suitable if you are just starting out with card reading. It works better if you are already used to symbolism and do not need ready-made meanings.
The format lends itself to quick draws. One card in the morning, one question in between. It is too small for elaborate spreads, but that is not what it was made for.
Place one card next to your keyboard or on your bedside table. Glance at it throughout the day and notice what stands out. Without explanation, every interpretation is yours.
About Patrick Valenza
Patrick Valenza is an illustrator and founder of Deviant Moon Inc. His best-known work is the Deviant Moon Tarot, a deck that has since gained cult status in the tarot world.
His style is recognisable: dark, sometimes grotesque, always with attention to detail. The figures seem to come from dreams, or from nightmares, depending on how you look at them.
