No keywords, no instructions, no system. Shen Hua is a set of 55 image cards that invites you to make your own story. Each card shows a scene from Chinese mythology, painted in watercolour by artist Han Wei.
The cards are published by OH Publishing, known for associative image cards used mainly in therapeutic and educational settings. Shen Hua follows the same approach: no text on the cards, no fixed interpretations, only images that set your mind to work.
Soft brushstrokes in clear colours. Dragons, wise figures, landscapes, historical scenes. The watercolour style is traditional Chinese, with plenty of empty space around the images. This creates calm, but also focus on the central image.
The cards have a matte coating and feel sturdy. The format is 89 x 129 mm, slightly larger than playing cards but still easy to shuffle. They come in a solid storage box with a short guidebook in German.

Do I need prior knowledge of Chinese mythology to use these cards?
No. The images work associatively. What you see in them is enough. Whether the dragon you see represents precisely this or that legend does not matter for using the card.
How do these cards differ from a tarot deck?
Tarot has a fixed structure with 78 cards divided into Major and Minor Arcana, and each card has traditional meanings. Shen Hua has no structure, no fixed meanings and no system. These are associative cards that work through your own interpretation.
