Product information
Spanish Tarot Deck - reproduction of an 18th-century Ligurian-Piedmontese deck
Not every historical tarot deck is fragile or ornate. This reproduction of an eighteenth-century design from Liguria and Piedmont stays close to the Marseille tradition, with strong lines and a simplicity that leaves little room for interpretation.
The deck is published by U.S. Games Systems, based on an original design by Spanish cardmaker Fournier. The cards carry titles in both Spanish and English, which makes the deck accessible for study and international use.
What you see on the cards
The illustrations follow the style of old woodcuts: flat colour fields, sturdy outlines, little nuance in shadows or depth. The colours are clear, the composition simple. No modern additions, no refinement that would muddy the original aesthetic.
The Major Arcana shows the classic figures from the Marseille line: The Fool without number, The Hanged Man, The Tower. The Minor Arcana consists of clearly drawn cups, swords, wands and pentacles, with clear rank numbers and no further explanation.
The cardstock is sturdy, the finish glossy. The cards weigh 290 grams together and feel solid when shuffling. The size of 70 x 120 mm sits comfortably in the hand.
How this deck relates to other Marseille decks
The Marseille tradition has many regional variants. This Ligurian-Piedmontese design differs in details from the better-known Conver or Jodorowsky models. The choices in composition and colour are more specific, the execution more direct.
The bilingual titles make the deck useful for those who work with multiple languages or read tarot in an international context. The multilingual instruction booklet offers basic information, not in-depth symbolic exploration.
Pull a card just after waking and notice how the simplicity of the images colours your first thought. This deck works best without excessive context.

Questions we often get
How does this deck differ from a standard Marseille Tarot?
The Ligurian-Piedmontese style follows the Marseille tradition but has its own regional execution. The lines are different, the colours slightly brighter, and the composition on some cards deviates. The bilingual titles also make this deck different from most French variants.
Is this deck suitable for someone just starting with tarot?
That depends on what you are looking for. The images are not extensively explained with scenes as in a Rider-Waite-Smith deck. You must find meaning yourself in the simple symbols. Some beginners find that clarity helpful, others prefer more visual cues.
