Starman Tarot - futuristic art meets classic tarot structure
Few tarot decks draw as much attention as this one. The Starman Tarot is not a subtle deck. It confronts you with bold colours, complex geometry and imagery that does not immediately spell out what you should see.
The deck emerged from the collaboration between designer Davide De Angelis and David Bowie. That partnership spanned several years and focused on visual projects where art, mysticism and performance intersected. The Starman Tarot translates that aesthetic into tarot format.
What you see on the cards
The imagery combines shamanic symbols with sacred geometry and a futuristic execution. Colours are intense: metallic tones, neon-like contrasts, deep black and white that glows. Every detail is deliberately placed, but not always immediately decipherable.
The deck follows the Rider-Waite structure, but the interpretation is highly personal. Classic symbols are present, but used differently. The Hermit carries no lamp, the Hanged Man does not hang as you might expect. That asks for a different way of looking.
Each card image works as a visual meditation. The geometric patterns draw your gaze inward, the colours hold your attention. This is not a deck you scan quickly.
How you work with it
The multilingual guidebook offers support, but the emphasis lies on intuitive reading. The images are rich enough to let your own story emerge. Many users draw one card and leave it out for a while, seeing what stays with them.
This deck lends itself well to creative questions. When you are stuck in a project or seeking a new perspective, the cards give impulses that may not be immediately logical, but do shake something loose.
Place a card beside your workspace and let the shapes and colours move along in the background. The art sometimes works better when you are not looking at it constantly.
