About Arthur Edward Waite and Pamela Colman Smith

Arthur Edward Waite was a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and designed a tarot deck in 1909 with a clear esoteric structure. He worked with artist Pamela Colman Smith, who drew the images.

Smith introduced an important change: she gave the minor arcana full illustrated scenes rather than just symbols. This made the deck more accessible for intuitive reading. Her work became the most copied tarot design ever made.
