The Field Tarot - botanical dreamscapes in pastel
Not every tarot deck throws symbolism at you. Some decks leave space. The Field Tarot by graphic artist Hannah Elizabeth Fofana replaces the usual dense symbolism with abstract botanical landscapes in soft pastel colours.
It is a deck of 78 cards, based on the Rider-Waite structure but without the medieval imagery. Flowers, plants and flowing forms make up the foundation. The colours are soft: pink, blue, green, cream. No hard lines, but clear composition.
What you see on the cards
The images are more suggestion than statement. A landscape with blooming plants, a field with soft shadows, an abstract shape that evokes something of growth or transformation. The symbolism sits in the atmosphere, not in outlined detail.
This makes the deck less predictable than a classic RWS deck. You read the cards not just through learned meanings, but also through what the image stirs in you. That space is intentional. The deck asks you to look first, then think.
The cards are printed on sturdy card stock with a matte finish. They shuffle well and the finish gives the colours a gentle quality. The size is standard tarot: 70 x 120 mm.
How this deck works in practice
The 96-page guidebook is in colour and contains descriptions of all cards plus a number of spreads. The texts provide context but also leave room for your own associations.
The deck is built for reflection. A daily card works well: one image that colours the day without immediately imposing a story. Larger spreads also work, provided you take time to let the images sink in.
Look at the colours and the form first before reaching for the guidebook. What does the landscape feel like? That is often enough to understand the card.

Questions we often get
How does this deck differ from the Rider-Waite?
The structure is the same, the imagery is not. Where Rider-Waite works with figures and symbolism from the Middle Ages, The Field Tarot opts for abstract botanical landscapes. The energy feels more modern and softer.
Are there keywords printed on the cards?
No. The cards show only the image. All meanings and descriptions are in the guidebook.
