Product information

The Fountain Tarot - oil paint and geometry in a light visual language

Most tarot decks work with dense symbolism or warm tones. The Fountain Tarot goes the other way. The imagery is light, almost ethereal, and the color palette is bright and cool. The result feels contemporary without losing its connection to classical tarot.

The deck was designed by artist Jonathan Saiz, who created all the cards as oil paintings. Andi Todaro handled the graphic design and holographic box. Jason Gruhl wrote the 112-page guidebook. The three worked together with the intention of making a deck that renders classical archetypes accessible to people who did not necessarily grow up with them.

What you see on the cards

The images are built around geometric forms: circles, triangles, lines cutting through space. Many cards show figures in light environments with little distraction. The focus lies on the essence of the symbol, not on decorative detail.

The colors are muted pastels with the occasional bright accent. That makes the imagery calm and easy to read. The style is far removed from the richness of a Rider Waite Smith or the dark drama of a Deviant Moon. This deck breathes quiet.

A notable feature is the 79th card, The Fountain. This card represents the source of all and is not used in standard spreads, but can serve as a meditation tool or as extra guidance in complex readings.

Physical execution

All cards have silver edges, which gives a ceremonial feeling during shuffling. The cardstock is sturdy and glides smoothly. The size of 127 x 84 mm is slightly larger than most pocket decks, but still easy to handle.

The box is made of sturdy cardboard with holographic effects. That sounds flashy, but in practice it is subtle and matches the light, almost cosmic atmosphere of the cards themselves.

Pull a card in the morning and notice which geometric form dominates. Watch during the day whether you see that form or pattern return in your surroundings or thought patterns.

How the guidebook works

The 112-page guidebook is clearly written. Each card receives a short description of the symbolism, an interpretation and suggestions for application. There are also a few spreads included, but the emphasis lies on understanding the images themselves.

The texts start from traditional meanings but emphasize contemporary themes. The Hermit, for example, is not only about solitude but also about digital detox and consciously choosing silence in a noisy world.

About the creators

Jonathan Saiz is a Los Angeles-based artist who works primarily in oil paint. He painted all the cards by hand before they were digitized for production.

Andi Todaro works as a graphic designer and handled the typography, layout and packaging. Jason Gruhl is a writer and tarot reader who wrote the accompanying texts.

Questions we often get

Does this deck follow the Rider Waite Smith structure?
Yes, the 78 cards follow the classical structure of 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana. The imagery differs, but the sequence and archetypes are the same. The 79th card, The Fountain, is an addition.

Are the silver edges vulnerable?
They can show some wear at the edges after intensive use, but that is normal for metallic finishes. The cards themselves remain perfectly usable.
