The Mushroom Tarot 2nd edition - 81 cards based on the mycelium network
Not every tarot deck draws its symbolism from the same source. This one takes its imagery from mycology: each card shows a specific mushroom species or genus, drawn with the accuracy of a field guide.
Chris Adams is an artist and amateur mycologist based in Oregon. His style combines scientific observation with the graphic power of punk posters and underground comics. The structure stays true to the Rider-Waite-Smith system, but the imagery is entirely new.
What you see on the cards
Each card shows a mushroom in detail: stem, cap, gills, growing environment. The line drawings are sharp and clear, executed in a style that recalls vintage nature guides and 1960s posters at the same time.
The Major Arcana links mushrooms to archetypes based on their growth form and characteristics. The Minor Arcana works with the same logic: the lifecycle of fungi as a metaphor for human processes.
The second edition has copper metallic edges and an improved finish. The cardstock is 280 gsm, sturdy enough for daily use. The cards measure 70 x 120 mm, classic tarot size.
How this deck behaves
This is a deck for questions about growth, transformation and hidden processes. Mushrooms grow on decay and feed the network beneath the soil. That dynamic returns in the way the cards read.
The guidebook explains how the mushroom species are linked to traditional tarot meanings. You do not need prior knowledge of mycology, but if you recognize mushrooms during a forest walk, that adds a layer.
Draw a card after a walk through the woods and see if you can find the mushroom you saw in the deck. The link between fieldwork and card reading strengthens the symbolism.
About Chris Adams

The second edition of The Mushroom Tarot is a direct response to demand for a more durable version. Adams improved the print, edges and packaging without changing the imagery.

Questions we often get
Why does this deck contain 81 cards instead of 78?
Chris Adams added three extra cards to highlight aspects of the fungal realm that did not fit within the standard 78 archetypes. The guidebook explains which cards these are and how to use them.
Do I need to know anything about mushrooms to use this deck?
No. The guidebook links each mushroom to the traditional tarot meaning. The mycological layer adds depth, but is not required to read the cards.
