The Sacred Mushroom Oracle - 44 cards rooted in plant medicine traditions
Mushrooms as oracle may sound unusual, but this deck has a grounded foundation. Xóchitl Kusikuy Ashe comes from a Peruvian ancestral lineage of medicine women and has worked within Mazatec healing traditions for over 27 years. She was initiated into those traditions at sixteen. This oracle comes directly from that life.
The 44 cards are painted by Carlos Cabán in a layered, visionary style. Each card holds multiple levels of symbolism that continue to reveal themselves on repeated viewing. That depth sets the imagery apart from many comparable decks.
What you see on the cards
Cabán's paintings are colourful and richly detailed. Mushrooms are central, but the work is not literally botanical: the images weave together plants, ancestors and earth-based symbolism in a recognisable visionary style. The cards communicate directly, without requiring much background knowledge to respond to an image.
Each card carries a message drawn from the ancestral traditions Ashe works within. These are not generic inspiration texts but messages rooted in a specific healing and ceremonial practice.
What the guidebook contains
The 128-page guidebook includes spreads, ceremonies and rituals. Ashe describes how the deck can be used in preparation for a ceremonial journey, during microdosing, or as everyday guidance. The content is practical and reflects her own work leading Mazatec psilocybin retreats in Mexico.
This is not a deck that has come loose from its maker. The context is specific, and that gives it a weight that generic oracle cards do not carry.
If plant medicine and ancestral wisdom speak to you but you have little background in these traditions, start with the guidebook before working with the cards.
About Xóchitl Kusikuy Ashe
Ashe founded Magical Medicine Journeys, through which she leads legal Mazatec psilocybin retreats in Mexico. She is the first woman in her family to be initiated into the healing traditions of her Peruvian ancestral lineage. Alongside her ceremonial work, she has a background in herbalism and IFS Therapy (Internal Family Systems).
Her work focuses on healing generational trauma and keeping Indigenous knowledge visible within the growing field of psychedelic healing. This oracle is part of that broader effort.
