Threadbound Oracle - oracle system built on bookbinding and story
Most oracle decks choose one universe. This deck chooses two: the craft of bookbinding and the world of a fantasy novel. The result is a 50-card system where the suits are not named as wands or cups, but as Paper, Ink and Thread.
Created by Cedar Wren McCloud, published by Numinous Spirit Press. The imagery is rendered in watercolour and ink, the design references old printing presses and the physical process of making a book.
How this deck is structured
Instead of a classic tarot structure, this deck works with 29 Story cards and 21 Suit cards. The Story cards are the larger narrative patterns, comparable to the Major Arcana. The Suit cards are divided across three themes: Paper for beginnings, Ink for transformation, Thread for connection.
Each card has three keywords and an extended description in the guidebook. That description covers both divination and writing. You can use the deck as an oracle, but also as a writing tool when you get stuck on a story or cannot quite capture a character.
Who this works for
This deck is designed for people who write or who find the process of making stories interesting. The keywords on the cards make it accessible enough for beginners, but the symbolism is dense enough to keep working with over time.
The 100-page guidebook offers room for multiple layers per card. You do not need to have read the novel The Thread That Binds to use this deck. The cards stand on their own.
Pull a card when a character in your story faces a choice. The card will not give you plot, but it will give you a different angle.

Questions we often get
Can I combine this deck with a tarot deck?
Yes. The Story cards work similarly to the Major Arcana, and the Suit cards can be laid alongside or in place of tarot suits. The deck puts particular emphasis on the narrative aspect.
What does the linen finish do?
The cards shuffle smoothly and are less likely to stick together. It also gives the deck a crafted feel that fits the bookbinding theme.
